Previous studies showed that resveratrol treatment could improve lipid metabolism in human and rodent models, but the mechanism remains unclear. Given that polyphenols like resveratrol have an extremely low bioavailability but accumulate in high concentration in the intestine, we aim to explore whether the effects of resveratrol on lipid metabolism are dependent on modification of gut microbiome composition and associate metabolites. Thus, we conducted 16s rRNA sequencing of ceacum content of mice receiving 8-week high-fat diet (HFD) or HFD plus resveratrol (0.5% in diet) treatment. The results revealed that resveratrol treatment significantly restored gut microbiome diversity and altered gut microbiota composition both at the phylum and genus levels.
