Data for iJMEST article on Multiple Choice Format Questions

This paper presents the results of a study on attitudes of students and lecturers towards the use of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in the assessment of a first-year engineering mathematics course at a large New Zealand university. Different types of assessment items were discussed, from optional quizzes and uncontrolled home assignments to a controlled final examination. The study was based on short questionnaires given to both students and lecturers where their attitudes were analysed using quantitative and qualitative methods. The emphasis of the study was on the validity of the assessment rather than on its practicality.
