The goal of this study was to elucidate genes that are employed by the bacterivorous nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to respond to the emerging nosocomial bacterial pathogen Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. 12 microarrays (4 per bacterial treatment) were used to identify genes that were differentially expressed when exposed to virulent (JCMS) and avirulent (K279a) strains of S. maltophilia and an avirulent (OP50) strain of E. coli.
