This project aimed to understand microbial diversity in the subsurface. Groundwater samples were collected at -140, -250, and 300 m depth in Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory. Amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA gene was performed by using DNA extracted from groundwater samples. Cultivated samples of groundwater with carbon steel were also analyzed.
