This dataset contains the life-cycle inventory (LCI) and techno-economic inventory (TEI) tables that underpin the paper “Diverting residual biomass to different end-users in China: system analysis and allocation strategy”. Biomass resource data were collected from the China Statistical Yearbook, China Statistical Yearbook on Environment, China Construction Statistics Yearbook, China Forest Statistic Yearbook, China Light Industry Yearbook and the ninth national forest resource inventory. Missing biomass data were collected from other related reports or calculated based on reasonable assumptions. Conversion technology-related data were primarily acquired from published literature and databases. Since the study’s aim is to be a reference for China’s residual biomass utilization strategy, data from China-specific databases are prioritized. The material and energy input-output data (IO) for each process are mainly from the open literature with China as the background and the existing processes in the Tiangong database, the upstream and downstream IO data are linked to the existing processes in the Tiangong database v2.0.1 in the openLCA, and the unknown GHG emission data are selected from China Products Carbon Footprint Factors Database(CPCD, https://lca.cityghg.com/ ) and Chinese Life Cycle Database (CLCD, https://www.efootprint.net/ ). If the necessary data are temporarily missing from the local Chinese databases, they come from the global average data (GLO) or the Chinese data (CN) in ecoinvent v3.11 (https://ecoquery.ecoinvent.org/3.11/ ). In particular, the changes in soil carbon emissions involved in the system boundary of the CLCA processes were derived from the average of studies in the related literature27,28,32. The uncertainty ranges of the relevant data were also faithfully extracted and used to calculate the uncertainty ranges of the GHG emissions involved in the whole biomass processing.
