How to safeguard university students against HIV transmission? Results of a cross-sectional study in Southern Italy

The dataset was used in a cross-sectional study primarily aimed to investigate the level of knowledge and attitudes towards HIV infection and sexual behaviors among a sample of undergraduate university students in Southern part of Italy. In one month period, between 1st and 31th of July 2020 a cross-sectional study was conducted in a representative sample of the Italian colege student of one public university of Calabria Region, that include both medical or life science and non-medical or life science courses. The information is collected through a online questionnaire that is filled in by respondents. The online survey was sent via institutional email. An anonymous and structured questionnaire was used, comprising of five sections: (1) socio-demographic and sexual history characteristics; (2) knowledge related to HIV infection; (3) attitudes towards HIV infection; (4) sexual behaviors; and (5) sources of information about HIV. To determine the level of knowledge, a score of “1” was put for the correct answer and “0” for the incorrect or unknown answers. Therefore, the total knowledge score was calculated, and it ranged from 0 to 10.本数据集用于一项横断面研究，该研究主要旨在探究意大利南部某公立大学本科生对艾滋病（HIV）感染的认知水平与态度，以及其性行为现状。2020年7月1日至31日（为期一个月），研究团队针对卡拉布里亚大区（Calabria Region）某公立大学的代表性大学生样本开展了本次横断面研究，样本涵盖医学/生命科学类与非医学/生命科学类专业。研究通过在线问卷收集信息，由受访者自行填写；该在线调查通过机构官方电子邮件发送。本次研究采用匿名结构化问卷，共包含五个部分：(1) 社会人口学与性行为史特征；(2) 艾滋病感染相关认知；(3) 对艾滋病感染的态度；(4) 性行为情况；(5) 艾滋病相关信息来源。为评估认知水平，正确答案计为1分，错误或未知答案计为0分，据此计算总认知得分，得分范围为0至10分。
