The Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity efficiency (DIGEST-E) grade is based on perceptual estimates of bolus percentage remaining in the pharynx after the primary swallow. These data compare DIGEST percent residue (DIGEST-PR) ratings to four different segmentation-based metrics of % residue. The segmentation approaches involve pixel-based measures of bolus area from three key frames during the swallowing sequence: Frame A: a pre-swallow frame prior to new bolus entry into the pharynx; Frame B: the frame immediately before upper esophageal sphincter (UES) opening; and Frame C: the frame immediately after UES closure. These segmented area tracings are used to calculate residue severity according to four different ratios: 1.Total Residue as Percent Total Bolus (also known as the Bolus Clearance Ratio (BCR): Total residue area on Frame C/Total bolus area on Frame B x 100%2.New Bolus Residue as Percent New Bolus (NBRPNB): (Total residue area on Frame C – pre-swallow residue area on Frame A)/(Total bolus area on Frame B – Pre-swallow residue area on Frame A) x 100%3.New Bolus Residue as Percent Total Bolus (NBRPTB): (Total residue area on Frame C – pre-swallow residue area on Frame A)/Total bolus area on Frame B x 100%4.Total Residue as Percent New Bolus (TRPNB): (Total residue area on Frame C)/(Total bolus area on Frame B – Pre-swallow residue area on Frame A) x 100%
