Orange waste valorization in Black Soldier Fly larvae and its associated microbiome

This study provides a rare, species-resolved account of microbial community succession during the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL)-mediated transformation of citrus waste in a West African setting. Through the application of long-read PacBio 16S rRNA sequencing, we reconstructed the taxonomic profiles of three ecologically linked metagenomes: untreated orange waste (OW), BSFL gut microbiota following orange waste ingestion (OW-BSFL), and the resultant frass (OWF).
