VDOT Structure Exclusions

VDOT Structure Exclusions - Updated quarterly in a single layer. Displays specified bridges, culverts, and tunnels in the state whose use by vehicles exceeding DMV’s maximum legal limitations is restricted. These restrictions include but are not limited to vehicle height for overpasses/tunnel/signage, weight for structure carrying capacity, overhang for ingress or egress, length, and width. Structure Exclusions lists for each exclusion type is available using this site. Trucking companies are the primary end user of the Structure Exclusions lists and web map through the DMV. The hauling permit, once obtained, will reference a code (N1R, N5R, N45T, etc) which corresponds to the list of state structures that the vehicle is not permitted to cross based on the dimensions of the vehicle. These excluded structures by code are also provided in VDOT’s Structure Exclusions map. Hauling permits for vehicles that exceed any parameters of the maximum legal vehicle limitations are obtained through the DMV.
