This study assessed the transcriptomics responses to iron and riboflavin and their interrelation in S. flexneri. In this species, the iron regulon was found to have a 22% overlap with that of riboflavin. Notably, the presence of riboflavin highly increased the number of iron-responsive genes. Reciprocally, the addition of iron drastically changed the nature of the pool of riboflavin-responsive genes.
