资源简介:
Between January and June 1995 crews from the Public Service Archaeology Program, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the University of South Carolina, conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of 7,500 acres at Poinsett Weapons Range, Sumter County, South Carolina for the United States Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories. The investigations were designed to produce a complete inventory of archaeological resources located at the weapons range and to provide recommendations for the National
Register of Historic Places status of all sites located. The survey resulted in the identification or relocation of 145 prehistoric and historic archaeological sites and isolated finds. It is recommended that
40 prehistoric sites, 11 historic sites and seven prehistoric/historic sites be considered potentially eligible for listing in the NRHP and Phase II archaeological testing be conducted to evaluate their eligibility.
