This series comprises of the master set of advisings, opinions and submissions from the Crown Solicitor's Office to State government agencies, State government Ministers and any other body or individual for which the Crown Solicitor may act as solicitor and barrister under legislation. The matters recorded set precedent and included matters of major public interest and significant to the powers of the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, the State or its agencies, or which relate to charities or charitable trusts.The volumes comprise letterpress copies produced in response to requests for legal advice received. In many cases, the letter is simply the reply to a question from a department; in others the question is repeated in the reply, thus giving the reader an idea of the context of the letter.Submissions in response to a notice to the Attorney General under S78B of the Commonwealth Judiciary Act 1903 relate to constitutional matters. S78B of the Act requires a court not to proceed in a matter arising under the Constitution or involving its interpretation unless it is satisfied that notice has been given. The court must not proceed to hear the matter until a reasonable time has elapsed since the giving of a notice for consideration by the Attorney General of the question of intervention in the proceedings or removal of the cause to a high court.
