A diet containing 5% red chili pepper (RP) led to increased faecal weight. Plasma glucose levels were low in mice fed RP. RP increased the amount of butyrate producers in mice and human faecal cultures. P. vulgatus was also increased by RP in mice and human faecal cultures.The Fe-reducing power in the broth was increased by incubation with stools.
