High-resolution multi-drought indices across Austria for the 1950 - 2023 period

This dataset offers a comprehensive, long-term overview of multiple drought indices for Austria, spanning from 1950 to 2023. It includes six well-established drought indices: the Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI), the modified Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDIe), the Standardised Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), the Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI), the Vapour Pressure Deficit (VPD), and the self-calibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index (scPDSI). These indices are calculated monthly using Reanalysis ERA5-Land data, which has a horizontal resolution of 0.1°. Additionally, the SPI is calculated monthly from 1950 to 2014 using the HISTALP dataset, which has a higher resolution of 5 minutes of a degree. The input parameters consist of total precipitation from both the HISTALP and ERA5-Land datasets, along with potential evapotranspiration derived from variables within the ERA5-Land data. The dataset encompasses multiscale indices that cover various timescales, ranging from 1 to 48 months. This provides a thorough perspective on hydroclimatic variability and represents different types of drought, including meteorological, agricultural, and hydrological.
