资源简介:
Warfare kills people and causes a deteriorated state of well-being that lasts even after the end of the war, and this is particularly true of intrastate conflict. Previous studies have found both direct and spillover effects of civil war on public health, but their findings have been inconclusive because their analyses do not properly estimate these effects, as they use either spatial cross-sectional or non-spatial time-series cross-sectional (TSCS) analysis. To create combined models for spatial process and time-invariant idiosyncratic and unit-invariant factors for TSCS data, I employ spatial TSCS analysis—i.e., using a spatial error model with the spillover effect of civil war and two-way fixed effects. My analysis indicates that intense civil wars decrease health-adjusted life expectancy in both the site of the civil war and contiguous countries.
