The use of molecular indentifiers during PCR amplification allows for correction of technical noise and quantification of individual RNA transcripts. This approach for library preparation can be used in different aspects of infectious disease research. In the present study, we use PCR amplification with barcoded primer sets for characterisation of the sequence diversity of virus populaitons in infected animal models as well as for monitoring of the animal response to infection.
