Activation function 1 of progesterone receptor is required for progesterone antagonism of estrogen action on uterus

Abnormalities of the endometrium are the most common health issuesfor women. These include infertility, endometriosis, and endometrial cancer. A commonaetiology of these endometrial conditions is the unopposed estrogen action due to impairedprogesterone signalling. However, the mechanism underlying the antagonistic effect ofprogesterone to estrogen is poorly understood. The central objective of the project is to gainan in depth understanding of the mechanisms of the antagonism using a progesterone receptormutant mouse model and to identify endometrial and plasma biomarkers indicative effectiveprogesterone antagonism of estrogen action.
