Hymeniacidon perlevis metagenome

Hymeniacidon perlevis is a sponge found in the intertidal areas of the North Atlantic. It is characterized by its bright orange-red coloration and is commonly known as the crumb of bread sponge. It live sympatrically with the breadcrumb sponge, Halichondria panicea and can often be found attached to rocks along the low tide line. H. perlevis is a unique sponge in that it can serve as an indicator of microbial pollution and is a possible indicator of water quality with its ability to concentrate contaminants from seawater. H. perlevis has previously been found to produce the compound hymenialdisine which has potential as a cancer treatment.
