Biotic Surveys for Mycetozoans in Kruger National Park

The data included is the catalog of specimens obtained from substrate material collected at seven sites within Kruger National Park in August 2006. This material was processed as part of the Eumycetozoan Project at the University of Arkansas, USA following the standard methodology for the three groups of organisms of interest: myxomycete (plasmodial slime molds), dictyostelids (cellular slime molds) and protostelids. Forty-three species of myxomycetes were collected and 373 voucher specimens were saved in cardboard herbarium specimen boxes. Twelve species of dictyostelids were found, three of which are possibly new to science. A significant diversity of protostelids were cultured with 18 species recorded from the park. The records of dictyostelids and protostelids represent the first records of these organisms from both Kruger National Park and South Africa.
