U.S. Congressional Financial Regulation Bills, 1998–2019: Tightening Legislation

This dataset contains a classification of all U.S. congressional bills related to financial regulation introduced between 1998 and 2019. Each bill is coded as tightening financial regulation, based on its content and intent. The dataset was compiled as part of an undergraduate dissertation for the EC4498 course at the University of St Andrews. Variables include bill title, sponsor, date of proposal, committee referral, and URLs to access full contents of each bill. The data was collected from Congress.go and manually coded. It is intended to support research on the political economy of financial regulation.
