资源简介:

A curated open-data record of major tropical cyclones from 1970 to the present, scored on the Destructive Power Score (DPS) — a 0–100 composite that combines peak intensity, Integrated Kinetic Energy (IKE), surge potential, duration of coastal exposure, and geographic reach. An open-data alternative to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. The dataset includes ~200 named tropical cyclones across all ocean basins (Atlantic, East Pacific, West Pacific, North Indian, South Indian, South Pacific, South Atlantic), with peak winds, central pressures, wind-field radii (RMW, R34), storm duration, landfall locations, inflation-adjusted damage estimates, and the underlying DPS component factors (duration, rapid intensification, geographic reach). All upstream data is sourced from public records: NOAA's National Hurricane Center (NHC), the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), the international IBTrACS archive, and the ATCF automated forecast database. No proprietary or paywalled data is used. Files in this deposit:• historical_storms_db.csv — primary tabular dataset• historical_storms_db.json — same content, structured array form• README.md — data dictionary, methodology summary, citation, license Full methodology and a live interactive tracker are available at https://stormdps.com/methodology and https://stormdps.com — including basin-specific calibration coefficients, the IKE integration approach, and the SLOSH-surrogate surge model.
