Genotypic Characterisation of Vibrio species Isolated in Ireland from 2020-2022

Vibrio infections in Ireland have met a notable significant increase in 2022, sparking further investigation into the potential of Vibrio species as an emerging pathogen in this country. Recent publications have shown the increased rates of clinical vibriosis reported in Northern Europe, likely due to global sea warming and encouraging proliferation of aquatic Vibrio populations. This research project focused on investigating the phenotypic and genotypic traits of environmental (n=2) and clinical (n=7) Vibrio species, isolated in Ireland.
