Neonatal unit outbreaks caused by Enterobacterales, and especially by Klebsiella spp. are increasing. K. oxytoca has a generally high antibiotic susceptibility and low virulence, still it may cause invasive infections in vulnerable populations, like preterm newborns. Prompt detection of outbreaks and effective management strategies are essential to reducing negative impacts on patients. Whole-genome sequencing was used to inform management of a biphasic K. oxytoca outbreak on a neonatal intensive care unit. This may have implications for outbreak response involving similar organisms.
