intestinal bacteria of a stranded Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis)

Using high-throughput 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing, we analyzed the intestinal bacterial samples from the stranded Indo-pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis) near the Pearl River estuary in China, including 3 anatomical regions (foregut, midgut and rectum) and 2 anatomical locations (content and mucus). These preliminary findings may be useful to improve the conservation and management of cetaceans by deploying microbial monitoring and microbiome-based therapies against wildlife diseases.
