Triticum monococcum subsp. monococcum played a significant role in the development of agriculture and was widely cultivated for centuries in the Middle East, Europe, Central Asia, and Africa before being replaced by free-threshing polyploid wheats. We report de novo assembly and annotation of T. monococcum genome by sequencing a cultivated accession PI 306540 collected in Romania.
