The Senegal Desertification Hazard (model) documentation
File: SENEGAL7.IMG
Code:146008-001
Raster Member
The IMG file is in IDRISI format
The Senegal Desertifcation Hazard was originally digitized for the
UNEP/FAO/ESRI Database for Africa provided by FAO for the
Desertification Hazar Mapping project. GRID-Geneva rasterized the
coverages for UNEP/GRID/WHO/CISFAM Senegal Database with a cell size
of 30 seconds and two minutes lat/lon (approximately one- and four
kilometeter-square pixels, respectively). The model was developed
using many of the preceding (SENEGAL1-6) as well as several additional
data layers, by means of an iterative process and according to a
FAO-provided model. Soil constraints, wind and water action, soil
salinization, human and animal population pressure on the landscape
were all considered in the final model. Contact : UNEP/GRID-Nairobi,
