Wheat root microbiome under drought stress

We established that the soil composition is generally important for both soil and root microbial communities and that specific soil parameters seem to determine the enrichment of specific bacteria upon drought. Based on in silico analysis and growth experiments, we identified microbes that can potentially protect the plant from drought stress. Our findings support the efforts to increase crop yield through implementation of the root microbiome and provide specific targets to maintain stable crop yields even under drought conditions.
