NRS-202 | Correspondence files [Division of Plant Industries]

This series consists of correspondence files for the Division of Plant Industry, later Division of Plant Industries, within the Department of Agriculture. The files reflect the Division's research and extension services relating to field crops and pastures, seed production, seed testing and certification, weed control, pest control, irrigation management and plant disease control. The files also include annual reports from the Research Centres and Research Stations; copies of publications by various Departmental Officers and seminar papers.The series starts with the commencement of the Division of Plant Industries in 1941, however the files contain documents earlier than that date concerning earlier research and supporting documentation. The files have a “PI” prefix to represent the Division. There are also files with a “H” prefix for the Division of Horticulture, which was amalgamated with the Division of Plant Industry in 1980. There are also “I” for Industries and “M” for Miscellaneous correspondence. Also amongst the series are Special Files with the prefix “SF”. These are a collection of files relating to matters such as cotton; flax improvement; linseed, rice and silkworm production; agricultural seeds regulations; fodder conservation; production of paper from straw; tung oil improvement; inspection of estates for war service land settlement; tobacco investigations; and the Rural Reconstruction Commission.The files have a Department of Agriculture file cover with a file title and file number on the cover. The files are arranged by an annual running number.
