Reference genome sequence of the marsh fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia).The marsh fritillary is a butterfly which is endangered and redlisted in several countries, including Denmark. The primary reasons for population declines are habitat degradation and fragmentation. It is therefore important to obtain information about its population genetic structure, including effective population sizes and gene flow among populations, in order to understand the conservation status of populations and plan possible conservation actions such as genetic rescue. A draft reference genome was constructed which will be used in further population genomics analyses aimed at analyzing gene flow, effective population size and other parameters of conservation relevance.
