RNA based Fusion gene analysis of Medullary Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy worldwide. Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) is the third most common thyroid malignancy after papillary and follicular thyroid cancer. MTC accounts for 5% of thyroid cancer cases and has more aggressive behavior compared to differentiated thyroid cancers. Surgical eradication remains the mainstay of treatment for MTC. MTC is well-associated with RET proto-oncogene mutations, but gene fusions remains elusive. Hence, it is pertinent to evaluate the RNA-sequencing based gene-fusions in MTC.
