Data include all open and closed death investigations where the preliminary or final conclusion regarding the manner of death is suicide. Suicide is defined as when the cause of death was an injury which was non-accidentally inflicted by the deceased. Suicide can only be assigned for individuals ages 10 years and older. Investigations for a number of these deaths are ongoing. Reported deaths with a manner of suicide may be changed to a different manner upon conclusion of the investigation. </span></p></li><li><p style='background-color:white;'><span style='color:#252423; font-size:14px;'>The more recent the death, the more likely the investigation is still ongoing. More recent deaths are also more likely to have an unassigned manner of death therefore the number of suicides may be under-represented. Suicide deaths for two latest years of data are considered preliminary</span></p></li><li><p style='background-color:white;'><span style='color:#252423; font-size:14px;'>Small numbers and rates should be interpreted with caution. </span></p></li><li><p style='background-color:white;'><span style='color:#252423; font-size:14px;'>Denominators used to calculate rates are population estimate (2011-2020) and projections (2021-2024) from Statistics Canada.</span></p></li><li><p style='background-color:white;'><span style='color:#252423; font-size:14px;'>The postal code of the primary environment (i.e., where the death occurred) is used to assign Public Health Unit. If the postal code of the primary environment is missing/invalid, the county of the primary environment is used to assign Public Health Unit. If postal code and county of the primary environment are missing/invalid, the Coroner's Region is used to assign Public Health Unit.</span></p></li></ul><p style='background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255); border:0px solid currentcolor; box-sizing:border-box; color:rgb(5, 46, 65); font-family:Arimo, "Avenir Next"; font-size:16px; font-style:normal; font-variant-caps:normal; font-variant-ligatures:normal; font-weight:400; letter-spacing:normal; margin:0px 0px 12px; max-width:100%; text-align:start; text-decoration-color:initial; text-decoration-style:initial; text-indent:0px; text-transform:none; word-spacing:0px;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><strong>Attributes:</strong></span></p><ul><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><span><strong>Year </strong>– Year of death.</span></span></p></li><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><strong>Number of deaths by suicide</strong><span> – number of suicide deaths in Ottawa</span></span></p></li><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><strong>Rate of death by suicide in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong><span> – rate of suicide deaths in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></span></p></li><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><strong>Rate of death by suicide among females in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – rate of suicide deaths among females in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></p></li><li><p style='line-height:107%; margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><strong>Rate of death by suicide for males in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – rate of suicide deaths among males in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></p></li><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><span><strong>3YMA of rate of death by suicide among 10- to 19-year-olds in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – three-year average of the rate of suicide deaths among 10- to 29-year-olds in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></span></p></li><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><span><strong>3YMA of rate of death by suicide of 20- to 44-year-olds in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – three-year average of the rate of suicide deaths among 20- to 44-year-olds in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></span></p></li><li><p style='margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><span><strong>3YMA of rate of death by suicide of 45- to 64-year-olds in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – three-year average of the rate of suicide deaths among 45- to 64-year-olds in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></span></p></li><li><p style='line-height:107%; margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><span><strong>3YMA of rate of death by suicide among 65-year-olds and older in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – three-year average of the rate of suicide deaths among 65-year-olds and older in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span></span></p></li><li><p style='line-height:107%; margin-bottom:4.2pt; margin-left:21.0pt;'><span style='font-size:14px;'><strong>3YMA of rate of death by suicide among 10-year-olds and older in Ottawa (per 100,000 population)</strong> – three-year average of the rate of suicide deaths among 10-year-olds and older in Ottawa, per 100,000 Ottawa residents.</span><br /><span style='font-size:14px;'> </span></p></li></ul><p style='background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255); border:0px solid currentcolor; box-sizing:border-box; color:rgb(5, 46, 65); font-family:Arimo, "Avenir Next"; font-size:16px; font-style:normal; font-variant-caps:normal; font-variant-ligatures:normal; font-weight:400; letter-spacing:normal; margin:0px 0px 12px; max-width:100%; text-align:start; text-decoration-color:initial; text-decoration-style:initial; text-indent:0px; text-transform:none; word-spacing:0px;'><strong>Author:</strong> OPH Epidemiology Team<br /><strong>Author email:</strong> <a style='background-color:transparent; border:0px solid currentcolor; box-sizing:border-box; color:rgb(5, 46, 65); font-family:inherit; line-height:1.5; max-width:100%; text-decoration:none;' href='mailto:OPH-Epidemiology@ottawa.ca' rel='nofollow ugc'><u>OPH-Epidemiology@ottawa.ca</u></a><br /><strong>Maintainer Organization:</strong> Epidemiology & Evidence, Ottawa Public Health</p>
