Bankfull area of the Lower Missouri, Middle Mississippi, and Upper Mississippi rivers used to quantify invasive carp habitat, 2025

This shapefile represents the surface area of this river section at bankfull discharge. The Modified Normalised Difference Water Index (mNDWI) was calculated from band layers 3 (green) and 11 (SWIR) of Sentinel 2 L1C imagery. The Sentinel datasets were limited to those collected on dates when 1) the river was within the 1 to 2 year recurrance levels of discharge based on USGS gage records, and 2) during periods when leaf cover was low, and 3) when cloud cover was less than 20% or at least the area of interest was not obscured by clouds. A vector dataset was then produced from the raster to create a bankfull boundary that was smoothed and manually corrected based on visual comparison to Sentinel 2 L1C, NAIP, ESRI World Imagery, and topobathymetry elevation layers.
