Brucella melitensis analysis in Iran

Brucella melitensis infection is a common zoonotic disease in Iran. Developing and acquiring resistance makes it one of the most critical zoonotic pathogens in endemic areas. The objective of this study was to identify Brucella melitensis at a species level in isolates recovered from humans and animals in different regions of Iran using classical phenotyping and Next-Generation-Sequencing (NGS) technology. Our findings revealed that B. melitensis biovar 1 is the most common species in bovines, small ruminants, camels, horses, and humans.
