On 1 January 2005, the Pensionsharmonisation Act came into force, in which the General Pension Act (APG) is included. Since then, a single pension system exists in Austria for workers in the private sector and for the Contract staff, federal officials. All civil servants, born in 1976 or appointed from 2005 onwards, and Contract staff born in 1955, receive their pension in accordance with the provisions of the APG.
