An Archaeological Survey of 30 Club Lease Tracts in Columbia, Lincoln, and McDuffie Counties, Georgia - Clark Hill Lake, Clarks Hill Survey of 30 Tracts 1983

Archaeological and historical study of small portions of McDuffie, Lincoln, and Columbia Counties, Georgia was undertaken by Carolina Archaeological Services under contract with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District (DACW21-83-M-0547). The purpose of this study was a cultural resources assessment of 30 geographically discrete tracts (360.8 acres) currently under Federal lease to private recreational clubs and soon to be sold as excess Federal property. All properties are located within the Clark Hill Lake project area.
Intensive archaeological survey and associated research were conducted to satisfy Federal agency management compliance requirements (Executive Order 11593, National Historic Preservation Act [P.L. 89-665 as amended], and the Reservoir Salvage Act [P.L. 86-523 as amended]). Site assessments followed the guidelines expressed by 36 CFR 800 and by 36 CFR 60.4. Professional qualifications and reporting guidelines followed those expressed by 36 CFR 6 6 and by various professional, Federal, and State regulations.
Archaeological fieldwork was conducted by a field team from April 12 - 15, 1983, and was preceded by a records search and background literature review (overview research). Project staff included Dr. Lesley M. Drucker (Principal Investigator/Archaeologist), Ronald W. Anthony (Field Archaeologist), Susan J. Krantz (Laboratory Supervisor), and Carl R. Steen (Research Assistant). Preparation of this final project study was made by principal project staff.
