The focus of this proposal is to determine the specific valence states of iron ions in 250 glass matrix particles selected from the Chang'e-5(CE-5) and Chang'e-6(CE-6) missions using synchrotron in-suit HERFD X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy, with an emphasis on the distribution and content of Fe³⁺. This study aims to gain the following new insights: (1) Differences in redox processes between volcanic glass (endogenic) and impact glass (exogenic); (2) The effect of different impact scales on oxidation, and the evidence for the existence of oxidation, is explored for the largest impact represented by the Aiken Basin on the lunar backside.
