资源简介:
Both sites 24BH2317 and 24BH2613 are located in southeastern Montana on the west
side of the present Tongue River Reservoir. Site 24BH2317 is a tipi ring campsite located on
the upland, moderately rolling short grass and sagebrush prairie bordering the flooded valley of
the Tongue River. This site appears to have a radiocarbon date of 3930 + 60 BP, indicating a
McKean occupation. Four pollen samples were collected stratigraphically from the fill within
Stone Circle 6 to identify vegetation associated with the occupation and changes in vegetation
from that time to the present. Site 24BH2613 is a single event bison killsite located near the
extreme upper end of the present reservoir. Two pollen samples were examined from deposits
containing bison bone to identify vegetation present at the time of this bison kill, which probably
occurred during the AD 1600s.
