Raw (optical density) and processed (growthcurver) data for the host range of Pseudomonas syringae phages

In agricultural systems, they are often viewed as potential biocontrol agents, but understanding their fundamental interactions with bacteria also helps us better characterise the plant microbiome and its applications. In our study, we examined how phages (n = 23) isolated from diseased plants interact with bacteria (n = 44) collected from diseased and healthy plants, and surrounding environments. Although we expected phages to preferentially infect bacteria from similar environments, we found that many phages infected bacterial strains regardless of their source, suggesting weak ecological barriers in this system. We also explored the contribution to bacterial resistance or sensitivity to phage infection by identifying bacterial defense systems and prophages. Overall, our work provides new insights into how phage–bacterium interactions evolve and function in plant-associated ecosystems. Optical density (OD) was measured every 5 minutes for 48h in 96-well plates.
