ECOPOETIC CONSCIOUSNESS IN RABINDRANATH TAGORE: A LITERARY REIMAGINING OF NATURE, ETHICS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL HARMONY

Abstract: In Rabindranath Tagore’s literary vision, nature is not merely an external spectacle, but a living, conscious emblem of impermanence—within which he discovers the silent music of the universal soul and the echoes of the human spirit. In his poems, stories, essays, and speeches, nature becomes a confluence of aesthetic consciousness, moral philosophy, and ecological awareness. This study explores how, beneath the poetic imagery of works such as ‘Balai’, ‘Dui Pakhi’, ‘Arogya’, and ‘Brikkha-Ropon’, lies a subtle environmental philosophy—where every atom of nature, every tree, bird, and river becomes a companion in life, a collective expression of the soul. Tagore’s love for nature is not mere romanticism, but a wise protest—against the currents of inequality, greed, and mechanization that flow through both the inner and outer worlds. In his view, the human relationship with nature is not only economic, but also a profound spiritual responsibility.
