Country-Year Analytical Dataset for Global Trends in Metabolic Risk Factors and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality, 2000–2023

This repository contains the derived analytical dataset and accompanying documentation used for a global ecological longitudinal study investigating the association between major metabolic risk factors and age-standardized cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. The analytical dataset comprises annual country-level observations for 204 countries and territories from 2000 to 2023. Variables include age-standardized CVD mortality and risk-attributable mortality estimates for high body mass index, high fasting plasma glucose, high systolic blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking, together with contextual indicators including gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and urbanization. The dataset was created by harmonizing publicly available data obtained from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, the World Bank Open Data platform, and, where applicable, the World Health Organization Global Health Observatory. This upload contains only the derived analytical dataset, documentation, and reproducibility materials. It does not include the original source datasets distributed by IHME or other providers. Users should obtain the original data directly from the respective data providers in accordance with their licensing and terms of use.
