Test-Retest Reliability of topical cold response measures

45 healthy subjects were assessed for their response to topical cold on 3 separate occasions. Four test sites were used in randomised order: thenar eminence, volar forearm, tibialis anterior and plantar heel. Cold detection threshold and cold pain threshold (CPT) were assessed using a Somedic peltier thermode (cut-off 0˚C) and standard method of limits. Intensity of pain at CPT was assessed using a 10cm visual analogue scale. Quality of sensation at CPT was assessed using a McGill Pain Descriptors list and PRI and NWC calculated.
