Precisely estimating soil carbon loss is a priority for improving management and mitigation efforts, especially for peatlands which is the largest soil carbon sink globally and is extremely sensitive to the intensified climate change and anthropogenic activity. However, variations in the rate and determinant of peatlands CO2emission from 1990 to 2020 - a period of severely environmental impacted, remain insufficiently quantified. Through a comprehensive synthesis of 1253 observational data, we systematically accessed decadal-scale variations in the rate and determinant of CO2emission from global peatlands over the three decades.
