Acinetobacter strain W107 was isolated from the plastic-polluted Tanggou River in China. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) confirmed that strain W107 could efficiently depolymerize PET by cleaving its ester bonds and releasing terephthalic acid (TPA). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations revealed extensive surface erosion and structural damage on PET films treated with W107, further verifying its physical degradation effect on PET.
