资源简介:

Maori sacred stone at Cornwall Park, Auckland, New Zealand. Representing the polynesian god of cultivation Rongo, it would traditionally have stood near kumara gardens. Before it was moved to the park in 1900, it stood on a ridge to the east of Three Kings volcano, Auckland, where it is thought to have been since around the 17th century. It is said to have originally been erected at Te Arai Pa near Mangawai Heads, by Maori Chief Tahuhu on his arrival in the country in the mid 14th century. The stone plinth dates to around the 1980s when part of the park that had been a US Army hospital from the 1940s to 1970s was redeveloped. From the early 1900s to 1980s the stone was located near the park's tea kiosk on an earlier stone plinth.
