Field Observation Dataset of Curbside Parking Events in Central Loja, Ecuador (2026)

This dataset contains field observation records of curbside parking events collected in the city centre of Loja, Ecuador, in May 2026. The data were gathered through a structured field observation instrument applied across six urban street segments located along 18 de Noviembre Street, Lauro Guerrero Street, and Juan José Peña Street. These segments are part of the central north–south and south–north mobility corridors of the city and are characterised by commercial activity, passenger pick-up/drop-off, loading/unloading activities, and regulated or informal curbside parking demand. The Excel file includes event-level observations related to spatial and temporal characteristics, parking environment, vehicle type, apparent parking purpose, manoeuvre characteristics, use of hazard lights, SIMERT card use, double-parking conditions, prohibited-zone occupation, parking duration, and observed mobility impacts such as congestion generation, pedestrian interference, public transport effects, and traffic-enforcement intervention. The dataset was used to analyse curbside parking duration, turnover, short-duration stopping behaviour, regulatory compliance, and spatial-temporal variability in central Loja. The main analytical sample retained 1,397 valid parking events after data-quality control. Records with zero duration and one extreme duration exceeding the predefined analytical threshold were excluded from the main analysis but preserved in the original dataset for transparency and reproducibility. This dataset is associated with a research article examining curbside parking behaviour, parking turnover, and regulatory compliance in an intermediate Latin American city. It may be useful for studies on urban parking management, curbside regulation, short-duration stopping behaviour, transport planning, and mobility management in city centres.
