Data set for the paper titled "Enablers of innovative entrepreneurship in the Fourth Industrial Revolution: a systematic review of global empirical studies"

There has been limited research on what is needed for entrepreneurs to lead innovation within the current digital space. So far, research has paid little attention to innovative technologies in entrepreneurship as well as entrepreneurship and innovation simultaneously. However, there are significantly changes in these domains which necessitate increased attention towards innovative approaches within entrepreneurship. The research objective is to identify the enablers of innovative entrepreneurship in the 4IR using a systematic literature review approach. The inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed empirical articles written in English from 2022-2024, which were accessible on Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) was used to assess bias, and the Cadima web tool was used to screen articles. 1528 articles were retrieved, out of which 99 were retained for the final study. A thematic approach was used to analyse data. Results show that the entrepreneur’s traits and competencies play a key role in their innovativeness. Likewise, financial and technological resources, human capital, operational capacity, array of networks, strategic drive towards innovation, market insight, customer knowledge, and the desire for environmental sustainability can trigger innovation in entrepreneurial businesses. Paramount to this is an enabling external environment that reflects an overall innovation culture and promotes innovative entrepreneurship. Practically, this study will help entrepreneurs to develop the traits and competencies that will help them innovate easily. It will also enlighten entrepreneurial businesses on the prerequisites for innovation for them to prepare accordingly. Findings also provide insight for policy makers and governments to create policies, conducive environments, support structures, and a robust entrepreneurship ecosystem to promote innovative entrepreneurship within this technological era.<br>
