Mile Marker Signs

This dataset contains the mapped locations of VDOT Mile Marker Signs (also known as Reference Location Signs or Mile Post Signs). These are physical roadside signposts installed for field reference and may differ from official Mile Point measurements maintained in VDOT’s Road Inventory System (RNS), which serves as the authoritative linear referencing source for VDOT roadway assets. This GIS layer was originally created based on data from a one‑time statewide inventory collection in late 2000s and have only been updated on an ad‑hoc basis when verified information for specific locations became available. As such, the mapped locations for Mile Marker Signs may not align precisely with current Mile Point records in the RNS. Variations may occur due to historical roadway realignments, rerouting, or sign placement constraints.
