NRS-20947 | Oral History Tapes [Sydney Opera House]

This series consists of interviews that were conducted as part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the construction of the Sydney Opera House and the Bicentennial celebrations. Between 1986 and 1988 an oral history project was undertaken by the Sydney Opera House Trust. The project was to record a history through those that worked on the Sydney Opera House recording the working conditions and the day to day aspects relating to the planning, design and construction, and to document the impact of the Opera House on the wider community. The interviews were conducted by Ruth Thompson and Ava Hubble who interviewed 39 people. The series also contains accompanying transcripts of the recordings. The interviews can start and finish abruptly and are not always accompanied with an introduction or closure by the interviewer. Also included are three interviews with Peter Hall taped in November 1966.The majority tape reels were digitised in 2015 by the Sydney Opera Trust the following six tapes PTXH23_3 Sam Hoare; PTXH25_1 and PTXH25_3 Charles Weatherburn; PTXH26_1, PTXH26_2 and PTXH26_3 Frank Matthews which were unsuccessful then were successfully digitised in 2016 by State Records Authority of NSW as part of the EmDARA (Emergency Digitisation of Archives at Risk) project. Researchers please note that these six tapes are of variable quality  due to sticky shed syndrome. Transcripts are available if the audio becomes difficult to hear.
