The strains named as Aspergillus awamori based on the neotype (IFM 58123NT = CBS 557.65NT) are identical with A. welwitschiae CBS 139.54T. Therefore the taxonomic position of A. awamori is not clear. Isolates of this species have been reported on mycotoxin producer or plant pathogens. Recently, it is known as the emerging pathogen of aspergillosis. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of A. awamori strain IFM 58123NT.
