VPRS 18163 Nurse Training Records

These records were used to record details of nurse training at the Fairfield/Queen's Memorial Infectious Diseases Hospital (VA 1231). P1 consignment Units 1-3 provide a detailed record of individual nurse training, which includes personal details, attendance, lectures and examination results, ward experience and Ward Sister's reports. Units 1-3 are large bound registers and begin with an alphabetical index (tabs A-Z) which lists the nurse's name and a page reference number that relates to the page of the register at which an entry for that person can be found. Each individual nurse's entry is on a double page, most with an accompanying photograph, and the following information is recorded: - Full Name - Age - Religion - Address - Educational Qualifications - Previous Occupation - Training Commencement and Completion Dates There follows separate detailed sections for each of: Attendance and Leave Dates Lectures and Examination Results Ward Experience Tutor Sister's Report Ward Sister's Report Matron's Comment Unit 4 details pass or fail results of trainee and probation nurses. Unit 4 is a large bound register and begins with an alphabetical index (tabs A-Z) which lists the nurse's name and a page reference number that relates to the page of the register at which an entry for that person can be found. The following information is recorded (column headings): - Full Name - Status (Trainee or Probation) - Completed Training Date - Date of Examination - Result (Pass or Fail) - Remarks P2 Consignment : Unit 1 lists those nurses to whom certificates were issued for competence in/as Post-Basic Communicable Diseases, Fever Nurses and Nursing Aides. Unit 1 is a small book which chronologically lists those nurses to whom training completion certificates were issued. The following information is recorded (column headings): - Number of Certificate (in fact a single sequence of numbers) - To Whom Issued (i.e. Full Name) - Date of Issue - Secretary's Initials - Remarks Some of the later entries add comments such as pass with distinction or provide registered post details for those certificates sent by post.
